Petra Neeleman’s farewell and Penni Michael‘s Welcome as New CEO At PWA! | MiCare

Petra Neeleman’s farewell and Penni Michael‘s Welcome as New CEO At PWA!

Our winter market morning, with its freshly cooked poffertjes, hand-painted cushion covers, knitted toys, handmade jewellery, potted plants, and live entertainment, proved to be a fitting backdrop for our talented quilter and Executive Director Petra Neeleman’s farewell.

As the clouds cleared and the sun began to shine, Petra, our long-serving ED (33 years no less!) was joined by incoming CEO Penni Michael, as well as Facility Manager Shane Wang, Care Manager Maria Anides, and previous long-standing Director of Nursing Laila Chalustowski.  Laila joined Petra in front of the impressive pastel balloon garland arch and shared stories and memories, along with plenty of laughter. Petra responded by giving a gracious speech thanking everyone who had been part of her journey to build MiCare into one of the leading organisations it is today.  It was then incoming CEO Penni Michael’s chance to provide an emotional and touching tribute to Petra. Penni joined MiCare in 2012 and has worked in several executive positions in the organisation. Penni also brings to her new CEO leadership role over 25 years of experience in social policy, research, and community development roles, and including past CEO experience. Congratulations Penni on becoming appointed CEO for MiCare!

With the formalities concluded, the music increased as Elders, care staff and management showed off their dance moves!  Staff and Elders on the balconies above joined in and watched Petra cut her cake, beautifully prepared, and decorated by PWAV’s catering team.

In the evening, hosted by ILU President John van Dijk,  the ILU’s happy hour was dedicated to Petra’s farewell. The full house was joined by Petra, Penni, Jos van den Ven (MiCare’s Queensland-based Chairman), Henry and Marieke Boegheim, Glenda Kerr, Vicky Kowaltzke and Shane Wang.  The speeches and emotional tributes flowed but all shared one common theme.  Namely, that being part of MiCare, in whatever capacity, was belonging to the one MiCare family.  This will be Petra’s legacy!  Wishing you a happy and adventurous retirement Petra!!

Testimonial

I would like to thank you and MiCare for giving me this opportunity to have a laptop to study the IT program as I will start the course soon. The course will be two days in the class face to face and two days online so it helps me saving time to study at home instead of going to the library.

The new friends I have made, in both Elders and staff, has made it easier for me in my new home. The staff are such beautiful people; I feel very lucky.
