MiCare’s Settlement Youth Worker organized and attended school holiday programs for the term 3 2023 holidays. These activities were delivered in partnership with services linked with Wyndham Humanitarian Network’s Youth Subgroup.

One of the activities was a group of 11 young people traveling to Melbourne CBD to see the iconic Melbourne landmarks. The participants also had lunch at a local Ramen restaurant. Laverton Youth Services and Headspace were the partners in this program and their representatives attended as well.

In another activity, a group of over 40 young people participated in a Careers Expo in Wyndham which included guest speakers from Victoria University, AFP, Headspace, SES. Lunch was provided by Amas Delights Food. Young people got support with updating their resumes and had the opportunity to ask questions and explore future employment or volunteering opportunities. Emily from Headspace got everyone out of their seats and engaged with the youth participants with a game. (Focus was on how the mind works and how it’s easier for some people to complete a task and others can get overwhelmed). Building a Leader Program is a youth leadership program funded by the City of Wyndham. The program focuses on building leadership skills in young people who arrived as migrants and refugees through sporting activities and workshops. In term 3, participants engaged in a volleyball program. During the school holidays, 10 participants in the program successfully completed their Level I Volleyball coaching course from Volleyball Australia.  This course was completed online. Young people gathered at the Werribee office to complete the course. The day was assisted by staff from Volleyball Australia. This course provides leadership skills as well as creates employment opportunities for young people who attended the program.
