Community Capacity Building

MiCare partners with a range of communities and agencies to build capacity

With a strong community development focus, MiCare works to strengthen and empower refugee communities to identify local issues and concerns, and to plan tailored community-owned responses.

Partnering with local councils, service providers, and community groups, MiCare’s Refugee and Asylum Seeker Strategic Partnership (RAP) supports a broad range of community-directed initiatives including:

  • Training and mentoring for community leaders and groups
  • Helping with governance, project planning, and resourcing of funds for group activities
  • Finding training and employment opportunities to develop job skills
  • Supporting the establishment of groups for women and children
  • Team-building programs and leadership development for youths
  • Planning and facilitating sports and recreation projects
  • Health and wellbeing workshops
  • Workshops on citizen rights and responsibilities
  • Social and cultural celebrations supporting multicultural life, and social inclusion

These programs are delivered in collaboration with key partners AMES Australia, WestJustice, Cohealth, VICSEG, and the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation.

Testimonial

I would like to thank you and MiCare for giving me this opportunity to have a laptop to study the IT program as I will start the course soon. The course will be two days in the class face to face and two days online so it helps me saving time to study at home instead of going to the library.
